DC biographies
We suggest you get acquainted with the history of this company and survive the most vivid moments in its development with us. The comics appeared at the very beginning of the twentieth century were a kind of symbol of the tendency to carry art to the masses. Simple and understandable literature for the people was necessary for the world, where the boundaries between the social strata, under the pressure of scientific achievements and changes in the financial structure, unexpectedly quickly, but confidently began to blur and lose meaning.
If in pre-revolutionary Russia, back in the nineteenth century, the artists-forward artists tried to instill in the simple Luda a sense of beautiful with the help of paintings based on familiar and well-known folk tales, then in the Western world the role of art for the wide masses played comics. Moreover, in America, the heroes of comics became as legendary and significant as folklore characters in the old world.
It was they who instilled in small kids the concept of good and evil, the need for justice and honesty. At first, of course, no one planned to carry a reasonable, kind and eternal. The first comics were completely devoted to the humor, which is indicated by their very name: from English Comic - funny. In the year in America, comics about a little boy from China, dressed in all yellow, who arrived in America in search of adventures, become popular in America.
Readers loved the “yellow baby” and soon every Sunday issue of the newspaper Mordining Jornal was accompanied by drawn stories about him. For these purposes, the editorial office was bought a color printing press, and thanks to a bright yellow main character in the world, the very concept of “yellow press” appeared. Subsequently, however, comics grow into an independent direction of mass culture and become especially popular in America.
For thirty years, humorous, satirical and acute-social stories have dominated the comic book market with varying success in the comic book market, until the National Allied Publications, now known to us all as DC Comics in February. In December, another comic book with the “new” heading is released: New Comics - and its size already set the standard for all comics in the future.
However, the beginning of the Golden Age of Comics, as well as the emergence of the concept of a superhero in the world, marks the first release of Action Comics, which was published on April 18, where Superman, the Hero of comics of 1 time and peoples, the father of all modern costume fighters with crime, will be represented. The very idea of a person with superpowers who seeks to help ordinary people who are in trouble, easily jumping at home and lifting the car, excited the minds of readers.
And, I must admit, the dream of getting at least some superpower does not leave a single decent geek today. Initially, Superman did not possess all the abilities that we know about now, and was just an alien from the planet, where gravity is much higher. This gave him great power and the opportunity to jump over incredible distances in our low -degree earthly conditions.
Then everything was simple: Superman did not charge from the sun, did not move at supersonic speed, did not shoot with laser rays from his eyes and did not freeze the opponents with icy breath. It is difficult to believe, but he did not even fly. Now, of course, the Crypton could compose any of the X -Men, but at that time the very idea of superhuman abilities was so fresh and original that readers could love a new hero only for this.
Should we talk about his bright suit? The creators of Superman and, in fact, the forefront fathers of the entire beloved genre of superhero comics, were writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster. In the creation of the character, they were largely inspired by the then cinema. The city of Metropolis was named after the film “Metropolis”, and the name Clark Kent arose due to the merger of the names of the two movie stamps of that time: Clark Gaibla and Kent Taylor.
The character of the alter-ego hero was written off from the author of the comic book, Jerry Siegel, and actor Harold Lloyd. As for the lover of the protagonist, Lois Lane, the future wife of Siegel served as her basis: Joanne Carter. The most funny thing in the history of Superman’s development, which now embodies all the best in humanity that it was originally conceived as a bald villain-ceiling that dreams of dominance over the world this character’s version later served as the main for the main antagonist Superman-Lex Luther.
However, some of the actions of our hero in the first comics, already in the role of the defender of justice, will still cause a shock from modern fans: Superman did not hesitate to kill criminals, intervene in the household matters of couples and dealt with villains with very radical methods. The position of the Boyskout from the Midwest was vaccinated for the character much later.
But back to the development of the publishing house itself and the biography of its founder. Vilera-Nilkolson's life was very interesting and outstanding long before the comics appeared in his life.He was born on January 4 of the year in Greenville, Tennessi. His father, whose last name was Strand, died shortly after the birth of the second child, brother of Malcolm.
His mother, Antoinette Wiler, moved with her family to New York, where she began her career as a journalist in a new women's magazine. The surname of her new husband, the stepfather of Malcolm, was Nicholson, which eventually formed a double surname of the legendary figure. The young Wiler-Nilkolson, who spent his childhood in a ranch with horses and excellently able to ride on horseback, entered the military academy, and in the year joined the cavalry of the United States.
According to various sources, he was either the youngest or one of the youngest major in the cavalry and in the army as a whole. According to his stories, the service was quite interesting and diverse, since he managed to hunt bandits on the border with Mexico, and compete with a fever in the Philippines, and lead the infantry battalion against the Bolsheviks in Serbia, and help to straighten affairs in the French army.
After the First World War, Wiler-Nilkolson was sent to a special military academy in France, where he met his future wife, Elsa Bjorkb. They got married in a year in Germany, and in M they had a daughter Antoinette in the homeland of his wife in Sweden. More than a worthy biography for a person responsible for the birth of a superhero genre. Events, the following further, are somewhat overshadowed by the impeccable military career of Major Vilera-Nilkelson.
He made a public accusation of the army command of a letter to President Harding, which led to a quarrel with many colleagues, accusations against them, controls on their part, court lawsuits and subsequent, as his family calls, the attempt on Vilera Nicolson, after which he was hospitalized with a bullet wound. For the publication of his letter to New York Times, Wiler-Nilkelson was sentenced to a military field court, which led to his resignation of the year when his second daughter, Marianne was born.
In and his sons Malcolm and Douglas were born, and in the daughter of Diana. Wiler-Nilkolson writes several documentary military novels, then begins to professionally engage in literature, releasing short stories for a boulevard's reading. Soon he has a certain fame in the right circles, which gives him the opportunity to establish his publisher: National Allied Publication, which under his control triggers his series of comics with new characters - “New Fun”.
After some time, nevertheless, Malcolm Wiler-Nilkolson was supplanted from the company, but did not despair and in partnership with the publisher Harry Donenfeld launched a new series of comics, this time well-known Detective Comics, Inc. Then a continuous series of failures and bankruptcies begins, in which it is easy to get confused. During the year, who did not solve his problems with the finances of Major Vilera-Nikolson, they also displace from Detective Comics, Inc.
Its first publishing house, National Allied Publication, also manages to go bankrupt and redeems Detective Comics, Inc. Now, when everything has become more or less clear, the scandalous Major Wiler-Nikolson is no longer in the world of comics, and in our narrative only the well-known Detective Comics, Inc. The Action Comics series with Superman is launched, the success of which is said above.
In the release of detective comics, Batman first appeared, who instantly became a star of the series and replaced other, a little less known in our time of stars, such as Chinese villain Chin Lun, the predecessor of Superman from the same authors Slam Bradley, as well as AIDS Sanders. In the camp of the company itself, various squabbles and permutations took place for a long time, and a sign and cult figure around which it could rally, which was Stan Lee for Marvel Comics.
Following these events, the Independed News merges occurs, which gives the new concern its distribution network. All enterprises are united this time under the name National Periodical Publications, the shares of which appear on the market in the year. However, despite the frequent shifts of the name, since the year the Superman-DC logo was printed on all comics, which made the company known precisely as DC Comics long before the official adoption of this name in the year.
It is worthwhile to dwell separately on the “detective” series of comics, which not only gave the company its name, but also in its m release opened the world of such a cult character as Batman. The first adventure of Batman was called the “Case of the Chemical Syndicate” and was written in the style of Boulevard's reading. The canons of this genre forbade the main character to kill enemies, endowed him with the torment of conscience, and subsequently gave him a full -fledged heroic motivation: revenge on the whole criminal world for the death of their parents.
It is strange to think that from the very beginning Batman was much less cruel than the Superman who was ease easily, which, however, did not prevent him from dropping the main villain into the vat with acid in the first issue.Literally a year after his appearance, Batman receives a solo series, in the first release of which he meets such villains as a Joker and a female woman, and also allows himself to kill several chudovich criminals.
This event prompted the comic book editor Whitney Elsvort to introduce the rule: the character cannot kill anyone and use weapons. This rule is the basic principle of Batman to this day. If the accent in the comics about the superman was made on action and entertainment, then they tried to make comics about Batman in a more detective and intellectual way. Since the deductive skills and later the title of the best detective in the world of the hero were inspired by Sherlock Holmes, they soon give the hero his doctor Watson-Miracle Malchik Robin.
And if then young partners in the superheroes come into fashion, then in the case of Batman it was a logical measure to introduce a character with whom the protagonist could share his conclusions into the expense of the disclosed case.
The first is probably familiar to any fan of the Dark Knight, since not a single mention is complete without a postscript: "Created by Bob Kane." However, from the very beginning, Kane brought his idea and sketches of the future hero to Bill Finger, co -authored with whom he developed the entire future concept of the comic book, including many main villains and the details of the plot.
Unfortunately, Bill Finger at one time did not insist on compliance with copyright, and after many years he fell into depression because he had not created anything worthwhile in life, although it is difficult to come up with something more worth and important for the comic book world than creating Batman. He has an authorship of another character DC, a green lantern.
As for Bob Kane, he pulled out his copyright with the battle, along with the creators of Superman Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster, but this happened much later, in the seventies. This tandem can be considered the first option for the future justice league. At the same time, while their heroes fought with crime, National Comics begins a full -scale war with plagiators of all stripes.
Since, in fact, the very idea of the superhero comics belonged to them and was superpowered, they had the right to sue almost everyone who tried to snatch a piece from this successful pie. One of the most high -profile and important trials was the lawsuit against Fawcett Comics and their character Captain Marvel. And although Captain Marvel, beautiful in his naivety, was not much like Superman and was a simple child who turned into a superhero with the help of magic, the court recognized the deliberate and intentional copying of the registered material and recognized the correctness of the claims of National Comics.
With the destruction of the character in the year, the publishing house also destroyed its competitor, Fawcett Comics. Then they still did not suspect that much worse the appearance of another player in the market in the market - Marvel Comics. However, at that time, the National Comics monopoly was undoubted, and their bankrupt competitors, feeling all the bitterness of the irony, sell them the rights to Captain Marvel, which will later become a full -fledged participant in the DC universe.
