Gorievsky biography

Valentin Vladislavovich was born on September 22, October 4 to A.D. In the year he graduated from the medical faculty of Heidelberg University. While still a student of the military-methodical and surgical academy in St. Petersburg, Gorievsky listened to the course of anatomy, which Professor P. read, already then began to show great interest in physical education.

Working as a doctor in a children's hospital, he in practice confirmed the correctness of his statements. Gorievsky developed the organizational and methodological foundations of medical control over the physical education of children and adolescents, hardening and physical exercises not only to maintain health, but also to achieve harmonious development; Forms of production gymnastics at industrial enterprises are proposed.

Attaching great importance to the influence of physical exercises, their impact on all body organs and, especially, on the activities of the central nervous system, Gorievsky V. is valuable its provisions on the connection of physical and aesthetic education. He advocated the upbringing of beautiful, expressive movements in children, which, in his opinion, most vividly reflect the individual and mental activity of a person.

He laid the scientific foundations of training, proven the leading role of outdoor games in the system of physical education of the child. The characteristics of physical development described by Gorievsky at different periods of human life have made a significant contribution to pedagogical science. The great public and pedagogical activity that Professor Gorievsky led did not prevent him from engaging in scientific literary work.

He wrote books: “Culture of the body”, “On breathing gymnastics”, “Physical culture of preschool age”, “All -Union holiday of physical culture”, “On normal shoes”, “Scientific foundations of training”, “Guide to physical culture and medical control for students and doctors”, “Physical education and motorcycle therapy in resorts” and others.
