Topies biography
Therefore, I would like to make a feasible contribution to the development of Habra.
This article is a set of simple strategic ideas that may give new development impulses. I probably understood the subtleties, requests and tastes of the audience. Most articles were in the form of “this topic may be useful to the readers of Habra in their work, I will try to figure it out and share as accessible as I can. That is, the principles are old, but they work fine today.
And Hn is if not the largest, then the most important part of the Y Combinator Payplaine is definitely. A few years ago, I was lucky to become YC Founder. And so it turned out a little better than others to understand the HN algorithms. And it looks different. But the spectrum of content, the level of discussion, the frequency of the appearance in the tape of the same, the section of the audience are the same on two platforms.
I know that in the Habr mechanics it was made as an analogue of IT-media, but today it is essentially Russian-speaking HN. Hacker News has never lost ground, although competition in the EN segment is much more serious. Therefore, you can take the best HN practices and apply them on Habr. There, in fact, not everything is as obvious as it seems. Not just “anyone posts the link and everyone votes, forming the top“ I don’t know what kind of metrics are the Habra Products, but described below with a high degree of probability or improve the retention of the time spent in the tape, or open the sources of new readers.
Obviously, the current audience needs new blood, preferably without damage to the old -timers. The editorial policy definitely needs the idea of a collective blog, which is regulated by the community, is cool. From the side it seems that HN is an ideal example of this. However, in fact, there is a very, very strict moderation, which includes half-hand ranking of the top. There is any unimportant, but cool: for example, YC Founders are illuminated by Orange.
And user huskies are just a signal of the audience interest in the topic. This approach helps to remove a large stream of ridiculous marketing content, an unnecessary self -patient, spam, etc. On a hub, only one talented curator is enough, which has a subtle antenna for the audience signals. You can even imagine this outside Habra: if for example there was a TG channel that simply collects not the most popular, but the most suitable articles, then we would have subscribed to it.
Content supervision will definitely improve the quality of the tape. It is more important to show opportunities than telling an interesting golden rule of any content. We may be interested to read about the aqueducts of ancient Rome or the history of the formation of Silicon Valley. But this does not change life, but simply makes it a little more interesting. But if you talk about the possibility of issuing a H1b visa to yourself or about the non-obvious way to be a finalist-developer in Australia, then this increases the value of one hundred times.
Such content needs to be certainly highlighted - to talk about it, to be fucked on the main one, to tell in newsletters, etc. The large share of the technical YC Founders learned about Y Combinator using Hacker News, which is highly appreciated among smart developers. The unconditional leadership of the YC as an Investment Fund of early stages is to a large extent due to the perennial involvement of technical minds on HN.
Now Habr is a digital media that works and earns like all media. A large share of his audience is smart, ambitious and well -earning! Why not involve them in any creative activity? I have no unequivocal answer that it could be. Joint developments, scientific or technical? Big Opensors? Venture Studio? This will certainly generate the influx of new talents.
I have no doubt that something great can turn out with such an audience! Caring for the authors is known that any social network or media determines content. Yes, it can be comfortable, beautiful, ponto, fashionable. But the value for the reader is content - from the authors of contentmakers or the editorial office. And the authors are important to accumulate their audience! The desire of ticklers to make viral tiktoki is completely based on algorithms that give coverage, which are then transformed into subscribers.
Coverage solve everything! Whether we like it or not. Moreover, the author can be proud of his profile, which makes the account the main place of landing people from other sources. God be with them, social networks! Many are proud of their profiles on Hithab. For some, this is important for self -identification. Why not make the author on Habr be proud of his profile? To have a simple opportunity to show the size of the audience?
And there would be a clear path, how to increase it? To display the best content and multiple readers' reactions to it? I have an audience of 50k in Telegram, 23k in Linkedin - I could proudly indicate my account on Habr. Which always has a great conversion due to the already finished loyalty of existing readers. Come on the opportunity to bring and take your audience - it is important.
Email newsletters as the future of Habra. I know that many consider the newsletters a relic of the past. I think so too.But in isolation from our preferences there is an objective reality determined by market mechanisms: on Substack there are IT -Silmary! How else to collect such an audience on text content in the form of articles? I would say that the newsletters are experiencing the Renaissance, including due to absolute safety for the author, the newsletter cannot be blocked or hidden.
Substack added interesting algorithms to this - it turned out a great platform, where many smartest ITs of the world now write texts. And even if not there, then on another platform or in the Standelone Snow. Habra has everything to become such a platform. Substack also YC, by the way, started with less. Habra has the most important thing - smart readers! All I suggest is to give them more value in the form of opportunities.
